Why choose Angela?

For over 30 years, Angela Hospice has been providing comprehensive, compassionate, and Christlike hospice care to the community of Southeast Michigan. A pioneer in the hospice movement, Angela Hospice opened the first freestanding inpatient hospice center of its kind in Michigan, and developed specialized prenatal and pediatric programs.

Physician Services

Angela Hospice’s full time medical director, James Boal, MD, is double Board Certified in Family Practice and Hospice/Palliative Medicine. Another full-time physician assists in making home visits and providing 24-hour on-call availability.

Nurses, Aides & Social Workers

Angela Hospice employs many nurses and hospice aides with special Certification in Hospice & Palliative Care. Nurses are available 24-hours a day for on-call service and to make home visits.

Angela Hospice also boasts multiple social workers who have earned special Certification from the Academy of Certified Social Workers.

Care Center

Our new 32-bed inpatient facility was opened in April 2010. All rooms are private and feature an expansive picture window, beautiful glass tiles, seating for six, a large memo board and shelves for personal items, and a flat screen cable TV with built-in DVD player. The daytime staffing well exceeds the average at other facilities with one nurse and one nurse aide for every 5 patients.

The facility also houses a chapel where Mass is held weekly.

The in-house chef prepares food tailored to each patient's desire and ability to eat.

Volunteers

Over 400 volunteers provide services including companionship, assistance with meals, respite care, and spiritual support.

Volunteer hosted activities include Caregiver Suppers, High Tea, and Ice Cream Night for patients and their visitors.

Ethics

Angela Hospice is rooted on a strong ethical base. The Ethics Advisory Committee includes over 20 members who meet monthly. Angela Hospice also emphasizes respect for the unique spiritual beliefs of each of its patients.

Awards & Accreditations

Angela Hospice received the Governor’s Quality Care Award in 2000 “Recognizing those who give quality care to Michigan’s most vulnerable residents; going beyond the ordinary to truly enhance the quality of life for the people under their care.”

Angela Hospice earned CHAP Accreditation in 2005.

Community Outreach

Angela Hospice’s extensive outreach program offered free-of-charge to the community includes bereavement support, Speakers Bureau presentations, and educational training provided to interns, residents, and healthcare professionals.
